I’ll never forget the words that were said to me. It was a beautiful day and my 6-year-old niece was sitting on the step whilst I hung outside having a cigarette. She’d come to Australia from England to be part of the wedding bridal party. I was getting married in a week. I was never good with small children back then. I felt rather awkward around them being 22 years old. I do remember what she said to me though. In a disappointed voice, she looked up at me and said, “You’re the only family member that smokes”. There was something about the way she said it. It was innocent of her, but it cut me deep. I only just met her, but it changed the course of my life.

My story above is not much different to most smokers. There comes a time when they feel its time to quit. It maybe a family member that makes them see the light, or perhaps they just want to become healthy again. Or even stop being a slave to nicotine. So I definitely know how it feels to go through the ups and downs of quitting and the failed attempts.

I wish I’d thought of hypnotherapy as a solution back then. I did it cold turkey eventually. It took a few goes. I changed my mindset and kept saying to myself, I’m not quitting; I’ll have a cigarette after lunch. Lunch came and went and I’d say to myself, I’d have one after dinner. This went on and on until it was 2 weeks without having a cigarette. I’m not going to lie; it was tough, especially going out with my friends who were smokers. Sitting at the bar and not having a cigarette was difficult. I got through it though the hard way. If I could have my time again, I would have chosen hypnotherapy.

So why do we keep going back? Why is it so hard? For me it was my stress relief. Every time I had a slight stressful moment it was my ‘baby blanket’ so to speak. Will I handle the stress without cigarettes? Will I break down? Will I cope? Looking back now I have found that it was the deep inhalation that I was missing. After I started meditation I found this was my stress relief.

Our 3-step program works when the issue is deeper than just nicotine addiction or there is a secondary gain to smoking. We look at any emotional attachment to smoking, which keeps you on that merry-go-round of failed attempts.

We use a combination of tools such as, hypnotherapy, Kinesiology and NLP to go to the core of the addiction. Finding the emotional connection or the secondary gain. Then finishing the session off with Hypnotherapy to cement in the new you. The non-smoker you want to be.
